Finally... The most athletic and explosive bigman ever. Getting to watch Kemp and Payton's highlights is like listening to "Stan" by Eminem for the first time, just mind blowing. Kemp was amazing and showed it from the time he stepped on the court to the 1995-96 NBA finals where like a train Kemp got better as the season went along. The Reignman should have won Championships, Dunk contests and a big contract, but instead won a starting spot on the should have been  better all-stars ( Starting line-up Kenny Anderson, VC, Latrell Sprewell, Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker with sixth man Glenn Robinson). Kemp was the first big-man to come straight from high school since moses malone. Kemp handled the rock like no bigman ever, had better explosiveness than the rest and the only person to touch his dunks is Mini-Kemp Blake Griffin. Kemp dunk on anyone and everyone in sight, caught alley oops from impossible angles. Watch any game from the 92-93 season, Kemps poster-making prime ( He posterized Cliff Robinson, Alton Listor and Chris Gatling to the extent that I'm sure they cried when they got home). GP and Kemp were a match made in heaven. Two street players with street attitudes and loads of talent. Sonic BOOM! should have ruled the west like the lakers did in the 2000 decade. When Reignman exploded it led every other team to have a chance. The Kemp explosion ruined chances for Kemp or Payton's chance to win a title in their prime. Kemp being trade left Payton with Baker and Kemp with Andre Miller... Not exactly top notch duo's.
Reignman was an amazing defender/rebounder who did more than match Hakeem in the sonics 96 sweep of Houston, moved on to terrorize the Mailman and left Dennis Rodman more clueless than after a night at Madonna's. In short Kemp was a mix of Blake Griffin and D-How.
If you never saw Kemp in his prime you were deprived!

Kemp's 96 PLayoff run is massively overrated. Malone thoroughly outplayed him in the 96 WCF (Malone put up 29 PPG, 11 REb, 5 assists while also D'ng up Kemp, while Shawn had 20-10 while refusing to go any where near Malone on defense, at least in a man to man context) and the Rodman matchup? Oh my. Kemp's lack of attention to detail was on display in the Finals. While he put up great stats the unfortunate fact is that he allowed Rodman to go crazy on the boards -- the rebounding rate for Worm in, say, the sixth game was insane and may have decided the series in Chi's favor.

Compare that to Malone in 97/98, who kept Rodman off the boards consistently and drove both his rebounding rate and his raw numbers way down (in 97, for instance, Utah outrebounded Chi).

Kemp's lack of discipline destroyed him longterm, but it was always there even when he was great (also: foul rate).
